NEW SCHOOL UPGRADES. Every Golden Plains school is getting a major upgrade. The Bannockburn Primary School will receive a $3 million upgrade that will include a new multi-use library and other improvements to the school, Inverleigh Primary will get a new multi-purpose school hall and Lethbridge Primary is having their whole school rebuilt, Shelford Primary and Teesdale will also get upgrades worth a total of over $1.3 million. Rokewood gets a new education facility for $620,000, Cape Clear Primary is getting refurbished classrooms and the Woady Yaloak Primary School - Scarsdale Campus – is getting new buildings worth $2 million.
SMYTHESDALE HEALTH AND COMMUNITY HUB. The Federal Government has provided very significant funding to build the new Smythesdale Health and Community Hub. A wide range of health and community services will be delivered from this building, which will be of benefit to all those people living in the north of the Golden Plains Shire.
BLACK SPOT AND RAIL CROSSINGS FUNDED. The Federal government has provided the biggest ever one-off Federal funding injection for local roads, blackspots and rail crossings across the Golden Plains Shire.
BANNOCKBURN COMMUNITY HUB. The Federal government has given over $600,000 toward the construction of the new Bannockburn Community and Cultural Centre. This fantastic facility will become the heart of the Bannockburn community, featuring a host of arts and community activities.
INVERLEIGH NETBALL / BOWLS CLUB UPGRADE. The Federal Government is also funding a new clubroom facility for the Inverleigh Netball and Bowls Clubs. This will be a great benefit to both these local clubs who provide valuable recreation services to the local community.
NEW BANNOCKBURN SPORTS PRECINCT. The Federal Government is also providing $2 million to kick-off the construction of the new Bannockburn Sport and Recreation Precinct. This precinct will ultimately see a new two-court indoor stadium, out tennis and basketball courts with lighting. There will also be new football/cricket ovals, soccer litches and netball courts, with a shared pavillion.The idea is to ensure Bannockburn and the kids growing up here have every opportunity to lead a healthy lifestyle.
THREE SKATEPARKS. The Federal Government is also funding three new skateparks in Linton, Meredith and Rokewood, helping keep local kids fit and healthy.

GEELONG RING ROAD. The Federal Government is providing almost half of the funding for the Geelong Ring Road, which will bring jobs and economic development to the whole of the Surf Coast Shire, including Torquay and Jan Juc. The Geelong Ring Road will also reduce commuting times to Melbourne and reduce traffic and commuting times in the Geelong City area, as well as reduce pollution. Once the Geelong Ring road is completed, people from Jan Juc, for example, will be able to travel from their driveway to Melbourne without a single traffic light.
NEW GP SUPER CLINIC. The new Federally funded GP Super Clinic will be built adjacent Barwon Health’s Belmont Community Health Centre, creating a large Health Services Hub in Belmont and providing an increased range of GP and allied health services. It will makke it easier for people living in Grovedale, Marshall, Highton, Waurn Ponds and Belmont to access GP and allied health services. It will provide access to services such as dental, district nursing, practise nurses, home referral services, podiatry, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychology/counselling, dietician and a wide range of other allied health services within the overall precinct.
NEW GEELONG-MELBOURNE EXPRESS RAIL. The Federal Government has committed $3.2 billion to build a new rail line that will allow larger express trains to operate between Geelong, Colac and Melbourne, cutting commuter times, significantly increasing the rail capacity. There will also be important environmental benefits, and efficiencies for freight movement. The new rail system is a huge commitment to public transport, and is part of Federal Labor's promise to modernise both our public and private transport system, which also includes the duplication of the Princes Highway between Waurn Ponds and Winchelsea and the construction of the Geelong Ring Road. These initiaiatives will be of benefit to the whole region.
UPGRADING THE PORT OF GEELONG. The Federal Government has also committed $50 million to upgrade the rail system leading into the Port of Geelong. This will be a major benefit to primary producers and other exporters across the region, and attract more jobs and industries to this region.
