Borough of Queenscliffe

The Borough of Queenscliffe has also received substantial funding from the Federal government.

Here's a summary of major projects affecting the Borough of Queenscliffe. To find out further detail about the opportunities and job creation impacts of the Federal Government's Stimulus Package in your local area, please visit the special dedicated website http://www.economicstimulusplan.gov.au/pages/default.aspx

NEW SCHOOL UPGRADES. The Queenscliffe Primary School, like every other Australian primary school, is receiving a major upgrade. Queenscliffe Primary is receiving two major grants; one to provide a substanital overall upgrade of the school, and another to carry out substantial refubishments. As a result of this, the Queenscliffe Primary school has now got a new Environmental Learning Centre.

DEFENCE HOUSING INITIATIVE. Queenscliffe has also benefited from the Federal Government's Defence Housing Initiaitive which will see 16 new defence force houses built.

QUEENSCLIFFE PLAYGROUND AND PARK IMPROVEMENTS. The Federal Government is also funding an upgrade of the coastal walk, new cliff top safety fencing, the development of a new playground, and informal off-street parking and refurbishment of amenities to enable disability access.

IMPROVEMENTS TO GEELONG - PORTARLINGTON ROAD. Under our Blackspot program many Queenscliffe residents will also benefit from the improvement we have made to the Geelong - Portarlington Road. These include remodelling central road islands, new signage, better linemarking, and better lighting. The Federal Government has devoted $417,000 towards this.

GEELONG RING ROAD. Because many Queenscliffe residents use the Geelong City area, there will also be benefits from the construction of the Geelong ring Road. This will reduce traffic on Geelong City roads and reduce the amount of car pollution.

NEW GP SUPER CLINIC. The new Federally funded GP Super Clinic is now up and running adjacent Barwon Health’s Belmont Community Health Centre. This centre, which will create a large Health Services Hub, will take the pressure off many GPs in other areas such as the Bellarine Peninsula. It will provide access to services such as dental, district nursing, practise nurses, home referral services, podiatry, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychology/counselling, dietician and a wide range of other allied health services within the overall precinct.

NEW GEELONG EXPRESS RAIL. The Federal Government has committed $3.2 billion to build a new rail line that will allow larger express trains to operate between Geelong, Colac and Melbourne, cutting commuter times, significantly increasing the rail capacity. There will also be important environmental benefits, and efficiencies for freight movement. The new rail system is a huge commitment to public transport, and is part of Federal Labor's promise to modernise both our public and private transport system, which also includes the duplication of the Princes Highway between Waurn Ponds and Winchelsea and the construction of the Geelong Ring Road. These initiaiatives will be of benefit to the whole region.

UPGRADING THE PORT OF GEELONG. The Federal Government has also committed $50 million to upgrade the rail system leading into the Port of Geelong. This will be a major benefit to primary producers and other exporters across the region, and attract more jobs and industries to this region.
