Huge win for Winchelsea

winchpicThe Federal Government today announced funding of $2,060,000 for the Winchelsea Sports and Community Hub under the Regional Council Infrastructure Fund.

Local Federal MP, Darren Cheeseman, said today the Winchelsea Sports and Community Hub was one of the most important projects he had advocated for since being elected.

“The project will be a tremendous boost for the whole Winchelsea community and will include a 200 seat multi-purpose function area, new gymnasium, new male and female changing rooms, meeting rooms, office areas, storerooms and commercial kitchen.”

“The project will be of great benefit to the running of the Winchelsea Festival, and also benefit to the Winchelsea Football and Netball Club, Winchelsea Cricket Club and Winchelsea Playgroup and over 20 other Winchelsea community organisations.”

“It will bring Winchelsea people together as one community.”

The gymnasium will be used by the Winchelsea and district community and by Winchelsea sports clubs for training.

The 200 seat function area / multi purpose space will be used for aerobic activity, community functions such as weddings, engagements, birthday parties, sports clubs social activities, large meetings, playgroups, older adult activities, including exercise programs and other local community activity.

“Because of the multiple benefits to the community, I have to say this is one of the best projects I have had the pleasure in advocating for, and I sincerely congratulate all those involved, particularly Barry Stevens and the leadership of the Winchelsea Sports Club,” Darren Cheeseman said.

“This project, with the duplication of the Princes Highway, will make Winchelsea an even more desirable place to live and a great place to bring up kids.”

Other Federally funded projects in the Winchelsea area include;

  • The Winchelsea Primary School Pride project (includes the refurbishment to the school toilets and improvements to the staffroom) now complete.
  • The major Winchelsea Primary BER upgrade (three new classrooms manufactured offsite and located as permanent buildings) will be complete September / October.
  • The historic Winchelsea Mansion (Barwon Park) Upgrade, with improvements to roof and commercial kitchen, currently has builders onsite.
