Local Member for Corangamite Darren Cheeseman today announced the Gillard Labor Government will provide $168,000 to fix a dangerous black spot in Grovedale.
$168,000 will be provided to realign the curve, upgrade delineation, improve lighting and apply skid resistant overlay at the intersection of Heyers Road and Burdoo Drive at Grovedale.
The project was recommended by a panel of independent road safety experts and will be delivered during the course of the coming financial year (2011/2012).
“This is one of the intersections locally that we can improve on to reduce accidents, and I’m sure local who use this all the time will be pleased to see it done,” Darren Cheeseman said.
Darren Cheesemen said since being elected in 2007, the Federal Labor Government has allocated over $2 million to fix ten black spots across the Corangamite electorate.
“This investment is helping to make our local roads even safer for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians, with six of these projects already completed.”
“And the good thing about our Black Spot program is that anyone can suggest an intersection or section of road they believe should be considered for a safety upgrade.”
“Nomination forms are available from my office. Alternatively, they can be downloaded from: www.nationbuildingprogram.gov.au.”
An independent evaluation of the Blackspot Program found it prevented at least 32 fatalities and more than 1,500 serious injuries in its first three years, underscoring its effectiveness at reducing fatal car accidents.
