$62 million awarded in building contracts for schools

The Federal Government has let $62 million in building contracts across the Greater Geelong and Western Victorian Region for school building projects, Federal MP, Darren Cheeseman, said. “This is great for the future of our local education system, and means hundreds of new jobs for tradespeople in across, Geelong, Colac and the Golden Plains shires and in other West Victorian shires,” Darren Cheeseman said.

Local Geelong schools have won $3 million for minor infrastructure and refurbishment projects under Round One of the Federal Government's National School Pride Program. The projects include a school amphitheatre, water conservation projects, multi-purpose synthetic sports facilities, classroom upgrades, interactive electronic whiteboards, outdoor learning areas and new amenities blocks.

The Colac Otways Shire, Surf coast Shire and the Golden Plains Shire and will get much improved broadband telephone and internet services due to a new $43 billion commitment by the Federal government over eight years.. “The bottom line for our region is that the further away you go from Geelong, the worse the broadband service gets. Fifteen local schools have secured over $27 million of funding in round one of the Primary Schools for the 21st Century program. An excited Federal MP, Darren Cheeseman, said the Schools for the 21st Century program was the most important piece of public policy announced since the election.
